Our gospel passage for Mass today continues from the Bread of Life discourse from St. John. The Lord says to us that “I am the bread of life. I am the living bread that came down from heaven”. As Catholics, we partake of the one bread and the one chalice that has been broken and shed for us. Jesus is the eternal bread of life who nourishes and sustains us. We must always yearn for this bread that will never die. Today’s second reading from St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians reminds us of how we ought to act. We need to be kind, compassionate and forgiving to one another. It can be very difficult to carry out those traits with certain people, whether they be friends, acquaintances, family or even fellow parishioners. St. Paul goes on to remind us that we need to be imitators of God. We are invited today to look at how we can be better imitators of God, in showing compassion, kindness and most especially forgiveness. In all things, we must always and forever put on Christ! Let us pray that through the powerful intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary, each of us will continue to grow closer to the most sacred heart of her son, Jesus.

Annual Catholic Appeal 2018
I take this opportunity to thank each of you for your support and generosity towards this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal. Our goal for the year is $59,519. As I mentioned, if each of us can participate in some way, we will be able to achieve our goal. As of now we have pledged $18,975 with 64 families participating. Anything that we make over the goal comes directly back to the parish. During the weekend of August 25/26 we will have a special in-pew pledge for those who have not yet given a gift to the ACA. We will welcome Father Patrick Burns, a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn and field director for the Annual Catholic Appeal as the presider and homilist for the masses that weekend. There are extra pledge forms at each of the three churches. Thank you for your support and generosity.
Have a great week,
Father Alonzo Q. Cox
