From the Pastor's Desk

Dear Parishioners,

Just last week, our nation once again was struck by horrific acts of violence which took the lives of innocent people. We pray for the victims of both mass shootings that occurred in Texas and Ohio. We pray for the repose of those innocent souls whose lives were taken out of violence and hatred. Most especially, we keep in our thoughts and prayers the families of those slain victims. We ask the Lord today to console these families and to bring his peace to this world. Much has be said and debated on the subject of gun control. It is an issue that needs to be looked at and reformed, but I will not use this as a platform for what we need to focus on at the moment. What we truly need as a nation, under God, is to allow his love to radiate and flourish. We need to come together as a community, in our diversity, to combat evil and violence with fervent prayer and reconciliation. May our Lady, Queen of Peace, intercede for our nation, as we strive to grow closer to one another and to the God of love and mercy.

Parish Flea Market

Our parish flea market will take place next Saturday August 17. It will be held at Our Lady of Victory Church. This is a perfect opportunity to clear out your attic, basement or any other part of your home to sell items. All crafts, homemade items, jewelry and food can be put for sale. The cost to purchase a table is $25. Please call the parish office to purchase a table for the flea market.

Patriotic Rosary

Our annual patriotic rosary celebration will take place on Saturday August 24 beginning at 1:00PM at Holy Rosary Church. Each summer we gather as a parish community to pray for our nation and elected officials. Immediately following the rosary all are invited for fellowship at a barbeque in the garden of Holy Rosary Church. All are welcomed.

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

This Thursday, August 15, we celebrate the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is one of my favorite Marian feast days. The Church proclaims that Mary was assumed into heaven, body and soul. It is at this moment that she is given the title, Queen of Heaven and Earth. The solemnity is a holy day of obligation. Masses will be celebrated at each of the three churches, 9:00AM at Holy Rosary, 12:00Noon at St. Peter Claver and 7:30PM at Our Lady of Victory. Please note that there will not be an 8:00AM Mass at Our Lady of Victory on August 15.

Back to School Supplies

In just a few weeks, youth from our parish will prepare to go back to school. Each year, we as a parish community collect school supplies for families to help offset the cost. We invite all parishioners to assist in purchasing school supplies and place them in the blue bins located at the front doors of each of the three churches. They will be distributed to the youth of our parish in September. Thank you for your generosity.

Have a great week,

Father Alonzo Q. Cox
