One of the many, many, many comments my mother would say to me is “you worry to much”. I must admit that as a kid growing up, I did worry about a lot of things. I would worry about the next exam that I would take in school. I would worry about my friends, making sure that they were ok. I would worry about my family always asking my mom and dad, “everything good?” Maybe some of you are the same way. We tend to worry about so much going on in our lives, that we tend to forget that Christ is right before us, in the midst of all of it. Today’s second reading from the letter to the Hebrews reminds us not to worry. Worrying about everything can become burdensome and draining. We must never lose sight of Christ, who is the source and summit of our faith. I have been reminded by others and many of you, that all of us must place our trust in the Lord, who will take care of all of our needs, even those that we don’t expect! We are truly surrounded by a cloud of witnesses. May they intercede for us from the throne of our Heavenly Father.
Our annual patriotic rosary celebration will take place next Saturday August 24 beginning at 1:00PM at Holy Rosary Church. Each summer we gather as a parish community to pray for our nation and elected officials. Immediately following the rosary all are invited for fellowship at a barbeque in the garden of Holy Rosary Church. All are welcomed.
Back to School Supplies
In just a few weeks, youth from our parish will prepare to go back to school. Each year, we as a parish community collect school supplies for families to help offset the cost. We invite all parishioners to assist in purchasing school supplies and place them in the blue bins located at the front doors of each of the three churches. They will be distributed to the youth of our parish in September. Thank you for your generosity.
Parish Recognition Luncheon
This November I will begin my 5th year with you as your Pastor. I give thanks and praise to God for the gift of my priesthood and for the opportunity to serve as your shepherd here at St. Martin dePorres Parish. I also thank God for the gift of all of you! The Pastor cannot do all of it on his own. We are blessed to have so many volunteers who allow this parish to grow and flourish. It is in that spirit, that we will hold a parish recognition luncheon honoring 8 parishioners who have given tremendously of their time, talent and treasure. The luncheon will take place on Saturday September 21 at Our Lady of Victory beginning at 10:30AM. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children. To purchase a ticket you can see a representative from each of the three churches or call the parish office.
Have a great week,
Father Alonzo Q. Cox
