It’s hard to even imagine that we are entering the last week of July! I do hope that all of you are enjoying these weeks of rest and relaxation before the hustle and bustle of Fall arrives. The Lord himself tells us in scripture that we must get time away for rest and rejuvenation. As you all know, I myself took the opportunity to get away for some time of rest with friends. I also took a few days just to re-organize my office space. I have entered into the unfortunate habit of keeping everything on my desk until it piles up to a mountain that needs to be tackled. Rejuvenation includes tackling the mountains of things we place aside, for whatever reason it might be and to approach the Lord with an open and clear heart, ready to embrace him. It is my prayer that these last few weeks of summer will be a time of fruitful rejuvenation, allowing our hearts to be immersed in the love and mercy of Christ our Savior.
Summer Mission Appeal
This weekend marks our annual Summer Mission Appeal. As you know, each summer, the Diocese of Brooklyn assigns a summer missionary to speak to all of the parishes about their particular mission to ask for prayers and financial assistance. This weekend we welcome His Excellency, Most Reverend Hyacinth Egbebo, MSP from the Diocese of Bomadi in Nigeria. He will be preaching at all of the masses this weekend. He will speak to us about the workings of his diocese in Nigeria and the need for clean drinking water and hospital supplies. We welcome Bishop Hyacinth to our parish community.
Parish Flea Market
Our parish flea market will take place on Saturday August 17. It will be held at Our Lady of Victory Church. This is a perfect opportunity to clear out your attic, basement or any other part of your home to sell items. All crafts, homemade items, jewelry and food can be put for sale. The cost to purchase a table is $25. Please call the parish office to purchase a table for the flea market.
First Friday Devotions
This Friday, August 2nd is the first Friday of the month. There will be First Friday Holy Hour at Our Lady of Victory immediately following the 8:00AM Mass. There will be Eucharistic Adoration with Benediction at Holy Rosary Church beginning at 7:00PM. Just a reminder that there will not be First Friday devotion at St. Peter Claver for the month of August or September.
Have a great week,
Father Alonzo Q. Cox
