Today is the 4th Sunday of Easter, traditionally known as Good Shepherd Sunday. We hear the Lord tell us in today’s gospel passage, that the sheep hears the voice of the shepherd and they follow him. We know that shepherd to be Christ the Lord. The Good Shepherd guides his flock ever so closer to him, that we his sheep will not become jaded or allured by the distractions of this world. In a special way, I ask that in your kindness you pray for priests who serve as shepherds here on this earth. In Rome today, our Holy Father, Pope Francis will ordain priests for the Diocese of Rome. In his homily last year, Pope Francis spoke to the newly ordained of the importance of being shepherds in the image and likeness of Christ. He said, “Remember that you are chosen from among mankind and appointed to act in their favor by attending to the things of God. Carry out the work of Christ’s ministry with genuine joy and love, seeking only to please God and not yourselves and others, nor seeking other interests. Only at the service of God, for the good of the holy faithful People of God. Finally, conscious of sharing in the work of Christ, the Head and Shepherd of the Church, and united with the Bishop and subject to him, seek to bring the faithful together into a unified family and to lead them effectively to God the Father, through Christ and in the Holy Spirit. Always keep in mind the example of the Good Shepherd who came not to be served but to serve, and to seek out and rescue those who were lost”.

Pilgrimage to Germany September 2-12 2020
As many of you know, I enjoy travelling abroad. I most especially enjoy pilgrimages abroad. I would like to invite each of you on a pilgrimage to Germany, specifically the city of Oberammergau. Every 10 years the entire city puts on the Passion Play. It only happens every 10 years! In addition we will be visiting the cities of Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Munich. There are flyers with the itinerary and hotel information at each of the three churches.
2019 Annual Catholic Appeal
We have begun the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal. As Pastor, I thank each of you who have participated with a gift to the 2018 Appeal and ask that everyone prayerfully consider making a gift to the 2019 Appeal. The work and services made possible through your donation to the Annual Catholic Appeal help people in Brooklyn and Queens in ways that no one parish can alone. As you know, each parish throughout the Diocese of Brooklyn is given a financial goal to raise throughout the year. Our goal for the Annual Catholic Appeal this year is $59,586. This goal can be reached if everyone participates in the Appeal.
Have a great week,
Father Alonzo Q. Cox
